Situated in Central America, Panama was the recent home for an ITTF/PTT Level One Coach Education Course; supported by Olympic Solidarity and organised under the auspices of the ITTF Development Programme, matters commenced on Saturday 2nd July and concluded on Wednesday 6th July.

The expert on duty was Ramon Ortega Montes, always known as Moncho, the Development Officer for the Latin American Table Tennis Union.

Venue
Venue for the whole course was the Wyndham Hotel in Panama City; premises which afforded first class facilities for the whole itinerary.

Attendance
A total of 23 students of whom four were women attended; the overall group representing the four regions of the country: Arraiján, Colón, Bocas del Toro and Herrera.

Notably, eight were physical education teachers and three police officers who were involved in social work with children.

Motivated Group
Most certainly there was a highly motivated group; with several of the teachers advising that it was their intention to promote table tennis in their respective schools.

Equally the police officers departed in a most positive frame of mind, being more confident in their ability to teach the sport, especially Celso Alvarado.

“I play several sports, I started table tennis one year ago; it is the sport that gives me the most satisfaction”, he said. “I use it in my work, I organise competitions, it stops people fighting.”

Different Reason
Also, Alex Kirsch was enthused but for a different reason.

“I want to learn more about table tennis”, he said. “It is especially important for me as my son is involved.”

Similar Reaction
It was a very similar reaction from Sammy Mercado.

“I explained things to my daughter and she understood”, he said. “So I suppose that I made the presentation in the right way.”

Panama Olympic Committee President Attended
A successful course and one appreciated by the Panama Olympic Committee, Camilo Amado, the President of the National Olympic Committee, attended.

He addressed the group at both the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
