An impressive performance, recently Italy won the Junior Boys’ Team title at the 2016 European Youth Championships in Zagreb, Croatia; on Tuesday 12th July, the players with coach, Lorenzo Nannoni, stood proudly on the top step of the podium.

Delighted with their success but their thoughts were elsewhere; their thoughts were back home, whilst common practice would have been to display the national flag, they displayed the banner “Forza Elisa”.

Accident
The banner is support for their colleague, 21 year old Lisa Trotti who suffered a terrible motorcycle accident last week.

Thankfully, she has survived the accident but she is badly injured; she has lost her right arm, her playing arm.

It is understood that she has regained consciousness and is able to walk.

World Championships
Notably, Elisa Trotti represented Italy at the GAC Group 2011 World Championships in Rotterdam and then one year later at the Liebherr 2012 World Team Championships in Dortmund.

Additionally, she was on duty at the European Championships and the European Youth Championships in both 2011 and 2012 whilst also being a familiar face on the ITTF World Junior Circuit.

ITTF Junior Circuit Success
Furthermore, she did enjoy ITTF Junior Circuit success; in 2009 in both Malta and Tunisia, she won the Cadet Girls’ Doubles title in partnership with Sofia Schierano.

Currently Elisa Trotti is listed at no.10 on the Italian Women’s World Rankings and in recent months has been fulfilling the role of both player and coach at local clubs in the country; establishing a career in the sport has always been her avowed aim.

Solidarity Fund
A solidarity fund is being opened by the Italian Table Tennis Federation to support Elisa Trotti; details will be advised as soon as possible.
